Eł.series 2009 boosts Variants and Option functionality to speed up
complex product design
26 March 2009, Westford MA, and Munich, Germany, Zuken announces a
significant advancement in variation and option management within the 2009
version of Eł.series.
Historically for each variant or option users had to work with multiple on
screen product drawings containing the different variants required, resulting in
major design headaches for new product development, particularly in applications
in sectors like the automotive industry. The new functionality within
Eł.schematic removes the need for sets of different drawings for each
configuration of a product – so there is no need to copy endless sheets, a user
simply outputs an option tree.
This level of functionality for complex option management is a ground breaking
first and brings numerous benefits, including reduced data management as there
are far fewer drawing iterations and thus fewer documents to manage, find and
remember.
This advancement supports names for complex Boolean expressions. The more
complex the variants and where multiple BOMs are required this sophisticated
product innovation becomes an essential piece of design kit saving valuable time
by avoiding extensive redrawing.
Zuken breaks new ground with E3.series 2009
18 February, 2009 – Munich, Germany and Westford, MA, USA - The 2009
version of Eł.series,
Zuken’s software for engineering electrotechnical, pneumatic and hydraulic
applications has made massive steps forward on both a detailed user level and on
a system design level. Highlights include advanced support of product variants
and options; of particular benefit to companies in industries such as automotive
and machinery sectors, and functionality improvements for support of ribbon
cables and curved connections enables designers to improve reliability and save
time. There have also been great leaps in technology specific to particular
modules within Eł.series; introducing hierarchical design capabilities for
Eł.cable and integrated 3D functionality within Eł.panel.
Complex Option Management
While Eł.series already supports options and variants, for the first time it is
easy to combine several options and/or variants together. It is now possible to
define a set of variations for each model of a product, without having to have a
different copy of all parts of the drawing. A user has one batch of different
drawings for all options and then variants can be stored, without duplicating
the different drawings for each product option. The bottom line is, this means
less work to generate new more advanced models of products; as the user no
longer has to copy and recreate all the data, they can just change parts of it.
This has massive time saving and quality benefits.
Eł.panel with Integrated 3D
For engineers working in panels that have several layers working within 2D can
be exceptionally limiting, the new 3D capabilities now part of Eł.panel allow
electrical engineers to work in a 3D world, without having to develop specialist
experience or work with complex construction commands. More information about
Eł.panel 2009 will be announced in the near future.
Eł.cable?s New Hierarchical Functionality for Design Reuse and
Partitioning
Not being able to see and easily access design files to visualize the bigger
picture can be very frustrating for electrical designers. In the 2009 version of
cabling and harness design tool a user is now able to view the complete
hierarchy of the design from top to bottom, making navigation and interpretation
of the final product much easier. More critically this clear design structuring
makes design reuse a reality and also allows designs to be partitioned, enabling
work to be performed in parallel. This logical structuring saves time, delivers
more flexibility and facilitates collaboration.
Zuken heads full steam towards becoming a leader in the rail vehicle
sector thanks to Eł.series
September 11, 2008 - Munich, Germany and Westford, MA, USA – Increasing
numbers of rail vehicle manufacturers are using Eł.series for the electrical
design of their products. Alstom LHB Salzgitter will be supplying the first rail
car platform designed with Eł.series before the year is out. This underlines
Zuken's strategy of growth in the rail vehicle market, adding to the company's
growing market share at a local and international level. In its work with
manufacturers of rail vehicles, Zuken considers itself a provider of solutions
for electronics and electrical engineering, with its eye keenly on the position
of market leader.
The Coradia Continental is the first train to feature electrical components from
Alstom designed using Eł.series.
Global companies like Alstom, Bombardier Transportation, Voith Turbo and others
are now relying on the innovative Eł.series software suite for electrical
design. This year, the company's stand at InnoTrans in Berlin is demonstrating
the gains in productivity that can be achieved with Eł.series. "Eł.series was
the first piece of E-CAE software to be developed from scratch for use on
Windows systems. Another of the strengths of Eł.series is the huge number of
ways in which it can be integrated with existing IT infrastructures and how it
exchanges data with other software solutions. The graphical user interface is
intuitive and enables new users to become productive in a very short time. And
this is the feature that has won over the rail vehicle manufacturers," explains
Joachim Frank, Director of Eł.business.
Alstom opts for configurators
By working with Eł.series, Alstom is now able to use a configurator. In the past
whenever a new order arrived in the electrical department, the first job was to
look for similar past projects and to use the one most appropriate as a basis
for the new order. All parameters, including the follow-up parameters, then had
to be adjusted by hand. Calculating the follow-up parameters in particular was
not only time-consuming but also prone to error due to the manual changes
needed.
Using configurators offers a more effective approach and one which is less prone
to error: "To start with, we produced a master plan, containing all the options
for the Coradia Continental vehicle platform. The customer now specifies which
of the options he wants. For example, if he needs an electric multiple unit with
a total of seven wagons and a maximum speed of 120 km/h, we simply enter the
main parameters from the customer's requests into the configurator. Most of the
follow-up parameters are then calculated automatically by control equipment
stored in the configurator," says Mr Fricke, group leader for circuit diagrams,
commenting on how the configurator works.
Using Eł.series functionalities in combination with a configurator is just one
of the ways in which this E-CAE solution can be used.
Improving Wire Harness Quality for Trains, Planes and Automobiles with
Eł.cable 2008
March 11, 2008 - Munich, Germany and Westford, MA USA - The 2008
version of the Eł.series modules for wire harness design has been dramatically
improved to help designers achieve 100% design reliability.
Eł.cable 2008 brings the introduction of intelligent customized functionality
expanding beyond the already strong machinery sector into the automotive and
mil/aero industries. These industries will benefit from functionality that
enables them to factor in specific design requirements shaped by the physical
nature of their end products, industry legislation and safety mandates.
For the design of wire harnesses for cars, trucks and specialized vehicles, the
focus is on delivering design time savings by adding industry-specific
functionality to eliminate time spent on tedious manual activities. For the
design of aeroplanes, helicopters and military applications, the emphasis is on
reducing effort, increasing design quality and guaranteeing 100% end product
reliability.
A standard car typically has a large number of inliners; placing these within
connections historically took several minutes each. In Eł.cable 2008, Zuken
includes a function that will simply add these and does all the background work;
reducing the time to complete these tasks to seconds. Another capability that
will benefit all users of Eł.cable, particularly those in the automotive sector,
is the ability to copy/insert complete sub circuits as an original, allowing
users to add system level details without touching the top level and without
having to insert sheets manually.
For mil/aero applications that typically feature many parallel connections,
designs often appear cluttered where connections are difficult to make; the
latest version of Eł.cable eliminates this problem by introducing the ability to
allow shielded pins in the form of daisy chains. In addition to the aesthetic
improvements, this significantly improves design quality and reliability.
Specifically for the military sector, users no longer have to use workarounds to
display connectors to that conform to industry MIL-standards, as this form of
connector symbol display is now just a simple click option.

E3 Series features the familiar Windows® user interface and includes standard
functions such as Drag & Drop, and Copy & Paste, making it an easy to learn and
cost effective design tool. These familiar Windows® functions however, have been
enhanced to include the underlying intelligence of the objects being
manipulated, thus adding to the power of E3 Series. For example, when an
existing relay is copied and pasted into a drawing, the database information is
carried along with it and the relay ID is updated to the next available number,
thereby ensuring the integrity of the design database.
